I’ve been thinking about the concept of coaching lately. 🤔
That title is earned. 👊
To be an effective coach means you are INTIMATELY acquainted with your student’s
Preparation 🏋️♂️ 🥦
Ability 🔥
Natural skillset 🪄
Physical injuries 🤕
Desired goals 🎯
Insecurities 😟
Self doubts. 😞
And to quote a famous (as well as nameless) man….”If you weren’t with me in the valleys, you don’t get to enjoy the mountain peaks with me.” ⛰️
If you aren’t willing to put in equal amounts of work into coaching as your student is to preparing……then you aren’t worthy of the title. 🥇
Now, I also believe that not every coach is a perfect fit for every athlete. 👎
I have certainly rubbed people the wrong way with my speech. 🙊
I’ve been told I’m polarizing, arrogant, and insensitive. 🙄
I know amazing coaches who are incredibly sensitive, non polarizing, and more humble in their approach….because that’s who they are naturally and it fits their personality. It’s just not me.
I learned a long time ago…..if you can’t look past somebody’s presentation to listen to their message, then you don’t deserve the value of what they have to say. 😳
Coaching is as much psychological work as it is physical work. 🧠
And if you aren’t willing to be the listening ear, sounding board, and both presenter/receiver of feedback……perhaps you should reconsider the position.
See you on the mats,
